Lake Del Valle Fishing Report

Del Valle Lake - Livermore, CA (Alameda County)

Paul Clouse, Al Hurwitz, and Al’s granddaughter, Natalie Hurwitz, trolled Lake Del Valle on May 8, 2025. We were able to have an excellent mid-morning bite, hooking up with a number of very nice Mt. Lassen Rainbow Trout. We caught five Rainbows, ranging from about 1-3.5 pounds (see photos attached). The fish were all caught along the western shore of the lake, most in the area of the Narrows. We used 1/4 oz RoxStar Spinner Flies (with scent applied), trolled about 16 feet below the surface in 20-30 foot water columns. The fish hit the lures very hard and were excellent  fighters. We experienced about six other bites that didn’t stay pinned. One Rainbow hooked up at the western entrance of Heron Bay, but spit the hook after an acrobatic jump. The bite died completely around 11 AM, likely due to bright sunlight driving the Trout into deeper sections of the lake.

Our trolling speed=2.0-2.3 mph. The lake water level is high, with excellent clarity, and a surface temperature of 68-69 plus degrees. We’ll be back soon for more Trout action and hopefully hook into some Smallmouth Bass as well.

Best regards,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Natalie Hurwitz, Calabasas
