It’s certainly surprising to see the flows remain this good as we head into September. At 300 CFS along the upper river and 500 down in the canyon, we are still seeing most of the river accessible by boat, and the walk and wade fishing is all time. If flows do drop any further however, floating will become limited. 

The cooler days over the last week have also caused water temperatures to drop a bit. Staying below the 68 degree mark at the Farad gauging station, although it has come close in the last few days. The thunderstorms expected all this week will most certainly drop these temps once again. We are seeing the water temps hit their highest point right around 5:00 every day, peaking right at 66-67 degrees in the canyon. 

At these temps the fish will still get stressed upon being caught and we would recommend avoiding fishing the canyon section of the river any time after 3:00, focusing on the morning fishing. This will be even more important along Glenshire, where temps will be warmer. Here we are recommending to call it a day by around 12:00 to 1:00pm. We also encourage you to carry a thermometer with you to remain informed on the temps while fishing. 

The crawdad bite remains strong again this week. They can be fished dead drifted with a euro rod, under an indicator or swung like a streamer, so play around with your presentation with these to try and elicit a strike. 

For the smaller flies, we have been doing great on smaller attractor perdigons, blowtorches, duracells, and peaches and cream. These small and buggy flies are mostly out fishing the exact imitations right now. There has been a noticeable increase in larger fish caught over the last few weeks, and this trend will continue into fall as the browns head into spawn. We couldn’t be more excited to see how fall shakes out this year!
