Castaic dropped to 83% of its storage capacity with water temperatures falling into the mid-seventies. The excellent bite continued as anglers reported another successful week of one- to three-pound bass along with the occasional striped bass. Topwater techniques dominated, with Espetits, Gunfish, and poppers producing bites, while finesse techniques near bluff walls and points also boated plenty of bass. Striped bass remained challenging with only short windows of surface activity, but anglers willing to pursue them were rewarded with fish between three and eight pounds, with Espetits again proving most effective. Catfish anglers found success using garlic-scented nightcrawlers, chicken liver, and cut sardines to pull whisker fish from the depths.
