As water temps continue to trend downwards along the entire river, most areas are now out of voluntary hoot owl restrictions. Please note that we are still seeing water temps hit 68 on the lower river past Sparks at around 5:00-6:00pm, please continue to fish this area in the mornings.

 

With the official start of Fall this week, we have seen a few things change. The fish are beginning to spread out to some different water types and the hatches are switching. We are seeing far more Fall/Winter bugs like baetis and less PMDs. The caddis hatches remain strong in the late evenings, providing an opportunity for some dry fly fishing. The high protein meals like crawdads, stones and worms are working as well.

 

With the browns getting more active over the last few weeks, we would also recommend tossing streamers, especially early mornings, late evenings or during overcast and stormy days. When indicator fishing or tight line nymphing, we are using far more LBS (Little Black Stuff) right now, things like Juju Baetis, Micro Mays, Tailwater Tinys, and Zebra Midges have been working well paired with your larger fly.

 

Fishing is an option all day once again, and some of the biggest fish of the year are showing up. Now is the time to neglect your errands, house chores or other adult responsibilities and go fish.
