The lake opener has been good from both boats and shore. We found trout sitting in 20+ feet of water, but when we found bait near the surface we found the trout on them. We were able to use sinking lines and retrieving flies with success.
It’s a little early for the indicator and balanced leeches, but with a cool start to October this year, that will come soon. Retrieving buggers and beetles/boobies has been productive. I like fishing one beetle or boobie this time of the year with a 2’ section of 12-15lb test fluorocarbon. This ensures the flies are hovering just off the bottom. The retrieve has been medium to slow paced. Always change up the pace of your retrieve if it’s not working, but with the amount of bait seen on the opener I don’t believe the fish are having to work hard to eat.
Flies we suggest: Booby Fly, Mopcorn, Beetle, Balanced Chub, TB Balanced Leech
