Current Water Conditions
Flows are running low, and water temps are hovering near 75°F, so fish are holding in oxygen-rich zones. Your best bet is to work moving water or the heads of pools where trout are actively feeding.
Water Temperatures
Mid-day temps are now hovering in the mid‑70s °F.
Hatches
Caddisflies and midges are appearing sporadically throughout the day. With the warmer weather, hatches are minimal, but expect rising fish in the mornings and evenings.
Effective Tactics
Drift nightcrawlers through runs or pull small spinners and spoons through the rapids — yellow, yellow/red, black, and black/red patterns are producing well. Fly anglers are having success stripping leeches and woolly buggers through fast water, while topwater action has been good on Stimulators, Parachute Adams, and Caddis patterns during morning and evening hatches. The Mohawk Bridge area is a consistent producer right now. The river is scheduled to be stocked the week of August 10, which should only improve the bite in the mornings and evenings.
Fly Box Must-Haves
Black Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulators, Parachute Adams, E/C Caddis
