Fishing is generally best when flows are below 3,000 cfs. Flows are currently at around 1,230 cfs at the gage in Waterloo. Fishing for spring Chinook is now closed. Anglers may see spawning or spawned out salmon in the river. Please give these fish enough distance to complete their life cycle. Don't let dogs to eat or chew on salmon carcasses as these contain a toxin that can be lethal to dogs. Fishing for summer steelhead is open year-round and is still quite good through September and into October. About 5,000 summer steelhead have been counted at Willamette Falls so far. The majority of these are in the upper sections above Waterloo, from below the deadline at Wiley Creek to Pleasant Valley boat ramp.
