Current Water Conditions

The Little Truckee River is running low and clear at 55 CFS between Stampede and Boca. Flows have ticked up slightly with recent precipitation, but conditions remain technical. Success here depends on long, clean, stealthy drifts.

Water Temperatures

Holding steady in the low 50s. Trout are active, but get selective under direct sun.

Hatches

Weather shifts are making hatches sporadic. Midges remain consistent through the morning and afternoon, with a sprinkling of PMDs and caddis. Small bugs (#18–22) remain essential.

Effective Tactics

Use long 12–14 foot leaders with 6x–7x tippet for precise, drag-free drifts. Match the hatch with midges and PMDs when trout are rising, try hopper-droppers in the late morning, and switch to tightline nymphing when fish retreat to deeper water.

Catch Report

Healthy rainbows and browns are showing in the 14–18" range, with some browns pushing 20" for those hitting the dry-fly windows at dawn and dusk.
