Joe D'Acquisto docked Red Rooster III at H&M Landing August 3 after the seventh annual Bluefin Jim five-day charter with 32 anglers and chartermaster Jim Casey. They found an excellent catch of bigger yellowtail at Cedros Island, and brought home near-limits. "We fished offshore and at Cedros," said D'Acquisto. "We had excellent fishing at Cedros for average-size yellowtail."

"The weather was bad for tuna," noted Bluefin Jim. "Although we did get some yellows and dorado off kelps. The best of our fishing at Cedros was in the lee at the south end near the salt plant. It was nice there. The big ones bit all day on the second day. It was a steady pick, mostly on bait. Thanks to Joe for a great trip! We released about 40 yellowtail."

"Woody" Wood of Highland won first place for a 43.95-pound yellowtail that sucked in a large mackerel bait on an 8/0 Mustad 94150 bait hook. He said he used 50-pound Izorline and 80-pound Izorline spectra on an Avet HX reel and a Calstar custom 875 rod by Kenny's Rod & Reel. The fish was his best-ever tuna. Henry Seiler of Fountain Valley won second place for a 43.25-pound yellowtail Kris Tjon of Irvine and John Berg of Evanston, WY tied for third place with 42.9-pound yellows.
