General Information: ??Good during midday. The Upper Sac is fishing a little slow in the cold mornings, but consistently picking up throughout the day as the temperature rises. There are lots of October Caddis shucks on the rocks and many adults flying around. Nymphing the deeper holes midday is the most productive strategy, but some fish are being caught on October Caddis dries, too.
Fishing Conditions & Hatches: Colder mornings make the fish want to sleep in a little, but as soon as the light starts to hit the water the fishing starts to really pick up. Nymphing with stonefly nymphs, Pheasant Tails, Red Copper Johns, and October Caddis nymphs is good throughout the middle of the day, with the possibility of some dry fly action at dusk on the big October Caddis adults.
Flies:
?Ģ GB Pheasant Tail Nymphs #16-18;
?Ģ Mercers Micro May #16-18;
?Ģ Red Copper John #16;
?Ģ Black Zebra Midge #18;
?Ģ Parachute Adams #14-16.
?Ģ Prince #14-16* Dark Lord #14-16
?Ģ Mercer's Micro-Mayfly nymph #16
?Ģ Copper Johns #14-18
?Ģ Flashback PT #16
?Ģ Z-Wing grn. #16
?Ģ Tungsten October Fox Pewpah #8
?Ģ Moorish's WMD October Caddis #8
?Ģ Mercer's Rag Sculpin #4
?Ģ GB Rubber Bugger
?Ģ Fresh Water Clouser (Olive/White)
?Ģ Spotlight Caddis
The Fly Shop's Tips: ??When nymphing on the Upper Sac, always use more weight than you think you need to get the flies down to the fish. This time of year small flies in the pocket water works best. If you're not ticking the bottom from time to time (yes, this means losing a few flies), you're probably not getting down to where the fish are feeding.
