SACRAMENTO DELTA
Delta Striped bass will soon be making an appearance as they begin their annual migration from the salt waters of the bay. Presently the only action is coming out of Whiskey Slough and flooded Mildred Island for Angler's on the drift using live bluegills for bait. Lucky Angler's find a few going 5 to 7 pounds. On the salmon scene the action has been sparse with only a couple of fish coming out of the Old Sacramento River at Vieira's Resort and the Freeport Bridge. The best lures are Silvertron spinners and Mepp's Flying C. Due to warm water conditions place a drop sinker on your terminal gear about 3 feet above your lure for deeper, cooler depths. The salmon are moving through very fast as they attempt to find cooler water temperatures further upstream. A recent bass tournament at Russo's Marina on Bethel Island produced a 5! Fish weight of 19 lbs. for the winning team with an 11 pounder taking big fish honors.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY
The striped bass fishing is off the charts, especially at the top of the incoming tides. Most are in the 18 to 24 inch category. most are tossing hair-raiser jigs or drifting live anchovies off the rock piles. Drop the hook and toss the midshipmen for leopard shark. The shark fishing has been the best in years with 3 fish limits the rule. Halibut fishing has really slowed down. Most are under the 22 inch minimum size requirement.

OCEAN
The best salmon fishing for Sausalito charter boats is taking place off Seal Rock where 48 anglers scored 72 Chinook to 22 pounds. Also in the mix is the excellent salmon fishing in Bodega bay where salmon are taken to 12 pounds. As a bonus limits of rockfish and lingcod taken as well.

CAMANCHE LAKE
Comanche Lake near Clements, Ca. is kicking out rainbow trout averaging 2 pounds per fish, up to a few whoppers weighing a mind-boggling 16.55 pounds. Trollers are working 25 to 35 deep with Needlefish, Speedy Shiners and Cripple lures up to 3 mph. Several 10 fish limits have exceeded 27 pounds in weight.

AMERICAN RIVER
Salmon fishing has been very slow on the American river with only a couple taken on the opening weekend at Sunrise and the Nimbus Basin a Mepp’s Flying C’s and Blue Fox spinners. The better bet is to hit the water early and target striped bass by tossing Pencil Poppers and Zara Spooks at a variety of locations from Howe Avenue to Sailor’s Bar. expect to hook stripers in the 18 to 26 inch range, up to an occasional fish weighing 15 pounds or better. Releases from nimbus Dam are 5,000 CFS.

UPPER SACRAMENTO RIVER
Salmon showing in the Anderson area at the Barge hole where early morning anglers scored on bright fresh-run fish the first 2 hours of daylight.

Take time to go out and enjoy the great outdoors. Until next tide stay safe to fish another day.
Be sure to check weather conditions before venturing out into the big waters.

ANGLERS, MARINA OWNERS, BAIT SHOP OWNERS AND OTHER FISHING RELATED BUSINESSES MUST TURN OUT FOR THE FISH AND GAME COMMISSION MEETING TO OPPOSE DELTA STRIPED BASS ERADICATION PROPOSAL!

We must show strong opposition to the petition submit to the California Fish and Game Commission by the coalition for a Sustainable Delta, a group of water contractors from Southern California headed by Beverly Hills agribusiness tycoons Stewart and Lynda Resnick who want to eradicate the Delta’s striped bass and largemouth bass, so-called predator fish that they allege are responsible for the decline of the Delta smelt and salmon, steelhead populations and not the excessive conveyance of water from the Delta.
It has become very obvious and very imperative that we flood the meeting with anglers, sport shop owners, marina owners and all other fishing related businesses to oppose this proposal.
The meeting will be conducted August 24-25, 2016 at the Lake Natoma Inn and Conference Center, 702 Gold Lake Drive, Folsom, Ca. 95630

The agenda can be found, by dates, at:
