ODFW is looking for volunteers to help with a meadow restoration project in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest on Feb. 24.

The restoration will happen in the Potato Patch Meadow Complex, where conifers are encroaching on grassland habitat and reducing quality habitat for Roosevelt elk, black-tailed deer and upland game birds. Volunteers will remove smaller encroaching trees and saplings and crate slash piles to encourage grouse nesting habitat, improving meadow habitat.  

Volunteers with experience and training using chainsaws, or people who can bring hand tools like loppers and weedwhackers are encouraged to attend.

The group Curry Citizens for Public Land Access is expected to meet at 7 a.m. and begin the day’s work with road maintenance. Other volunteers can join in at 10 a.m.

Meet at the Lobster Creek Bridge parking area on the north side of the Rogue River (sound end of Lobster Creek Bridge) in the Rogue River-Siskiyou NF. A map of the meeting location (which is a 20 minute drive from Gold Beach) can be found here.
