The Barry Anderson Charter ended August 30 when skipper Kevin Osborne docked Intrepid at Pt. Loma Sportfishing after his five-day trip with 26 anglers.

"We stopped at Benitos and San Pablo for good yellowtail fishing first," said Kevin. Then we went offshore and had some good dorado fishing on flats up to 25 pounds or so, before we went up to Guadalupe. We also got a half-dozen good tuna. At Guadalupe we had an all-night bite on big yellowtail."

Henry Carrillo of LA bagged the trip's best fish, a whopper yellowtail of 62 pounds, the best to come aboard the Intrepid ever, and the best of the 2007-2008 season, figured from September to September.

"The deckhand saved my fish when he got wrapped on the anchor line," said Henry. "The fish was really strong, he took all my line."

Carrillo baited a sardine on the dropper loop for his giant yellow, using a 10-ounce sinker and a 4/0 Mustad hook. He fished 50-pound P-Line on a TLD 30 reel and a rod he said was an eight-foot Orange County rod.

John Schwartz of Simi Valley won second place for a 45.4-pound yellow on the dropper loop, and David Sheerin of Torrance won third place for a 37.8-pound yellowtail that inhaled a slab bait.
