DELTA
Here we are into June with daytime temperatures reaching into the high nineties.  But  that should not keep you off the water, because there are still plenty of striped bass and sturgeon on both the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers.  With the snow pack now holding at 202 percent of average streams and rivers will continue to pump flows of cooler waters into the Delta Region for months to come.  Striped bass will continue to be caught trolling, casting artificial lures and at anchor dunking that favorite bait of yours.

The sturgeon fishing remains solid with good numbers showing in Suisun Cut and Montezuma Slough where the basic shrimp baits and salmon roe remains the top baits.  For largemouth bass head over into the Cache Slough area where the action remains solid tossing Beaver and D Bomb creature baits into the thick weed mats, structure and along the rip-rap.  Outgoing tides have been best.  The south Delta presently is offering anglers a larger grade of largemouth bass tossing crank baits, swimsuits and spinnerbaits into the weed beds and structure especially on the outgoing tides.  The bass are averaging 3 to 5 pounds, into an occasional 7 to 8 pounder in the mix.  Remember during the warmer summer months to take plenty of bottled water with you to prevent getting dehydrated.

AMERICAN AND FEATHER RIVERS
There are still enough American shad along with striped bass to make it interesting if you plan on fishing either of the locations.  Due to the cooler water conditions the fishing should remain fair to good for several more weeks.  There are American shad and striped bass in the Boyd’s Pump and Shanghai Bend sections of the Feather River in the Cal Expo area of the American River.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY
San Francisco Bay is still kicking huge numbers of halibut and striped bass for those on the drift using live anchovies.  Some charter boats catching as many as 30 to 50 halibut per outing along with limits and near limits of striped bass for their clients.  Most of the action is coming off the Berkeley Fats, Angel Island, Alcatraz, Paradise Bay, South Bay and South Hampton Shoals.  The average halibut is weighing 10 to 14 pounds, up to an occasional 20 to 30 pounder.  The striped bass have been averaging about 8 pounds.

GOLDEN GATE SALMON
The salmon action has been hot along the Marin County coastline and off the Duxbury Buoy with most private and party boats taking two fish limits in short order.  The Berkeley based Easy Rider took 10 limits of Chinook salmon to 22 pounds last Tuesday and the following day they took 23 limits of salmon to 24 pounds trolling with anchovies.  This year the salmon fishing is going to be off the charts in ocean waters as well as the inland water fishing.

Take time to enjoy the San Joaquin-Sacramento Delta Region on your next outing.  Until next tide stay safe to fish another day.
