At 22,000 surface acres it is the second largest natural body of water in California and is home of the hard fighting Eagle Lake Trout. Eagle Lake was once regarded at one of California's top trophy trout fisheries, however in recent years it has struggled with the drought and declining water levels. During the drought years, fishing pressure declined, which produced the right environment to showcase some fantastic fishing. The good news is the winter of 2016/17 gave the water level a big boost, and with all the extra water, the quality of the fish came soaring back. During the following years of 2018 and 2019 the lake again received healthy doses of water and the fishing responded accordingly. If you want to test your light tackle abilities Eagle lake is for you. Eagle lake is located 96 miles from Reno, 216 miles from Sacramento, and 300 miles from San Francisco. You don’t want to miss this one in late fall.
The Seasons - (Sept.- Dec.) Eagle Lake is open to fish from the Saturday of Memorial weekend in May until December 31st each year, but Fall is the prime time to be on the water. As the waters cool, generally in September, the fish come out of deeper water and push into the shallows gorging themselves on the lakes plentiful food supplies. Having aggressive fish eagerly on the hunt is the right combination for spectacular fishing.

This provides the fastest and sometimes the only way to reach remote fishing areas. Fly anglers are responsible for their own waders/rods/reels. We have the flies.
