Hello fellow anglers. As many of you know, Alpine, Inyo and Mono county trout opener was delayed until June 1st as of right now.. I am keeping in touch with the CDFW, and will let you all know if that changes. Also as a reminder that camping and gathering in large numbers of ten or more is also not allowed. I am right with you all, I am itching to get out and set up a campfire and sit under the stars.  The trout season may be delayed but there are a few other areas that we can get out and do some fishing, if we respect each other and keep with the social distancing. Here is your local report on whats going on in our local fishing area.

LAKE TAHOE: All public boat ramps are still closed until further notice. A few people have been fishing at Cave Rock off of the rocks. Even shore access roads are closed.

CAPLES LAKE: As of last Sunday. The lake was still 90% iced over. There are a few areas that have open waters. Along the dam and spillway area had enough open water to fish. The Woods Creek area also had open water. I saw a couple people parking at the Woods Creek area and had walked down to fish. Did not talk with anyone coming back up though. By this weekend the lake should have more open water.

WOODS LAKE; Road is closed

RED LAKE: The lake was 90% iced over and the ice was coming off fast. By this weekend, There should be some open water around the shore areas. And with our temps going up, it might be ice free.

BLUE LAKES: The road is closed right up to highway 88.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: The campground is closed and overnight camping is prohibited any where in the area. The water level is up and the fishing has been fair but spotty. The Alpine County Sheriffs Dept has been patrolling the area to make sure no one is breaking the rules. Now even though the algae has subsided, do not let your pets swim or drink from the lake.It is still not safe. Clean and rinse your fish before you freeze them.

TOPAZ LAKE: The Douglas County campground is closed and there is no overnight camping allowed in the day use area. The county boat ramp and day use is open to enjoy, as long as we don't gather in large groups. The lake level has come up a little and the fishing has started to pick up as well. Green Powerbait of night crawler have been successful for shore anglers. trollers have been using flasher and a half a night crawler or Rapalas. The water temp is coming up and the fish have started to go a little deeper. Early morning has been most productive.

CARSON RIVER EAST AND WEST FORK IN CALIFORNIA: Closed to fishing until June 1st as of right now. Monitor pass and Ebbets pass are closed at the intersection of highway 89 and highway 4.

CARSON RIVER NEVADA SIDE: The fishing has been fair to good. I personally like the upper river in Douglas County.

MASON VALLEY WILDLIFE AREA: Is closed to the public until further notice.

PYRAMID LAKE: The entire area is closed to the public until further notice. I have heard that the lake may not open until fall, but this has not been substantiated at this time

The Nevada Dept of Wildlife has been busy planting trout many areas. Here is a list of our local waters that have been planted with catchable trout. East Walker River, Verdi Pond, Mitch Pond, Baily Pond, Catnip reservoir, Davis Creek Park Pond, Wilson Common Pond, Marilyns Pond, Rye Patch Reservoir. We do have opportunities to get out and fish if we do it responsibly. reminder that were ever you fish, remember that the outside temperatures will be warm. But the waters are still very cold. Especially if you venture down the any of the rivers. All of that snow up on top of us is melting and can cause hypothermia. Use caution and be safe as many of our rivers will have increasing flows and an become swift and dangerous. Together we will get though this and sit around a campfire soon. If you have a picture of your fishing adventure. Send it to sports@recordcourier.com. I will try to keep you all informed on a weekly basis as thing unfold and slowly start to open.  Good fishin' and tight lines

Good luck on your next fishing adventure. If you have a question. a report in our local fishing area or have a photo of your catch, send it to nevada@fishreports.com. Hope to see you on the waters. Good fishin' and tight lines.
