On April 1st 2020, I decided to fish the California Delta with my tournament partner Justin Mesinheiner. We got a little late start on the morning launching the boat at 9 am. Our boat ramp of choice was Tracy Oasis located off Grimes Road just south of highway four, and just north of interstate 205.

After launching we fished around the boat ramp with our presentation of choice being top water. I was chucking and winding a River2sea whopper plopper, while Justin was throwing a frog in a bluegill pattern. We both had several fish come up and swipe at our baits with only one fish committing fully which was a solid three pounder.

With not much going on  with top water we ran north to fish some lower water. We fished around several of the flooded islands, and started catching fish on a variety of soft plastics.

The better fish came in flooded grass where tulles were present on rip rap banks. Although we didn’t catch any big fish we were able to establish a pattern in a limited amount of time.
