No recent reports as few people have been fishing the South Umpqua these past few weeks due to high muddy water, but conditions should start to improve. This week will probably be the best chance to get a hatchery steelhead before the runs begins to decline. Water levels are fairly high now and not likely to come down a lot this week, but the clarity should get better.‌

Anglers that catch a hatchery steelhead are encouraged to donate the snout to ODFW. Collection barrels are at many boat ramps on the South Umpqua. These snouts may contain a coded-wire tag that will help inform managers on the best release strategy to improve the program.
