The Borel Fire closed HWY 178 most of the week and just recently reopened. Be mindful of fire crews and personnel working in the area as there are multiple fire incidents. The Upper Kern trout action has slowed down significantly from the excellent bite over the last month. Holdovers and natives are being found in the deeper pools and above Fairview with salmon eggs and trout jigs. In the Lower Kern the Smallmouth Bass bite has been very good and consistent. Double Tail grubs on finesse jig heads and Roostertails have been on fire for Smallmouth Bass in the Lower Kern. Small Catfish are coming on many of the same offerings as the Smallmouth. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River at Kernville was flowing at 442 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 1871 CFS.
