Here in the Upper Kern anglers are having to work a bit to find some bites. Holdovers and natives are being found along the 20-mile stretch with salmon eggs, minijigs and worms. Fly anglers have found a few along the open sections with Nymphs and Steamers. In the Lower Kern closer to Bakersfield, the Smallmouth Bass bite has been very good around structure. Double Tail grubs on finesse jig heads and Roostertails have been on fire for Smallmouth Bass in the Lower Kern. Small Catfish are coming on many of the same offerings as the Smallmouth. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River is flowing at 433 CFS and the Lower Kern River is flowing at 1796 CFS.
