The Lower Deschutes is fishing exceptionally well right now, with October Caddis hatches lighting up the afternoons and evenings. Nymphing is proving productive, with stonefly nymphs paired with Perdigons or two-bits delivering consistent action on trout. Steelhead are also making their way upstream, making this an ideal time to target them.

For steelhead, sink tips with intruder-style streamers are the go-to setup, though floating lines are still yielding results on warmer days.

If you're planning to float from Warm Springs to Trout Creek, please remember the closure imposed by the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs, effective November 1 until April 22, 2025. All waters west of the main channel are off-limits during this time, and tribal fishing permits are only valid during the General Trout Season, from April 22 to October 31 each year.

Water Levels are now stable, making the river look fantastic right now. With great fishing conditions and October being a prime time for both trout and steelhead, be sure to secure your spots soon! Happy fishing!
