Water Conditions: ??Great. Flows are good throughout the system, and the entire river is in great shape and has been fishing very well. There has been a variety of different hatches: Salmonflies, golden stoneflies, several species of Mayflies, and some decent caddis hatches in the evening. We're seeing more big fish so far this year than we have since the first year the river re-opened after the Cantara Spill.
Fishing Conditions & Hatches: Nymphing with P.T's, Micro Mayflies (black), Red Copper Johns, Prince Nymphs, and Stonefly patterns in the pocket water and riffles has been producing some nice fish. Dry fly fishing is also productive in the afternoons and evenings, with fish rising to stimulators (orange and yellow), PMDs, and caddis in the evenings.
Flies: ??Best flies lately: #8-10 Stimulators (Orange and Golden) GB Pheasant Tail Nymphs #16-18; Micro Mayfly Olice #16-18; Red Copper John #16; Black Zebra Midge #18; Parachute Adams #14-16. Gidget #18, brown or olive* Prince #14-16* Dark Lord #14-16 * Mercer's Micro-Mayfly nymph #16* Copper Johns #14-18* Flashback PT #16 * Z-Wing grn. #16 * , Fox's Poopah! #16 Para Adams * #18, Zebra Midges #18, Tilt wing dun #20, Hare's Ears #12 to #16, Spotlight Caddis, small Stimulators.
The Fly Shop's Tips: ??When nymphing on the Upper Sac, always use more weight than you think you need to get the flies down to the fish. If you're not ticking bottom from time to time (yes, this means losing a few flies), you're probably not getting down to where the fish are feeding.
