When The Fly Shop ? opened its doors in 1978 the Klamath River was one of the primary guided angling destinations that we offered.

Current River Conditions: No news folks! We are in between seasons on the Klamath for the month of July. Nothing big and exciting to report. Oh well. The Salmon Flies and Goldens have come and gone. The fishing was great for smaller rainbows. Sometimes bigger rainbows move into the Iron Gate area near Hornbrook, CA. during the warm days of summer. Watch this report for updates! Look for sporadic up to date reports on the Klamath through the summer. For now, the fishing on the Klamath is focussed on the lower sections down near Klamath Glen where Salmon is the name of the game.

The Fly Shop's ? Tips: In late May through June, fishing large salmon fly dries along the banks, next to boulders and in shallow tail outs will produce those carnivores fish this river is famous for. I would not want to be a salmon fly on this river! Use 9' leaders, tapered to 2x. Attach your salmon fly dry. Cast! Check back here for updates as we close in on May!

River Fact: The Klamath river is 263 miles long, originating in a broad valley at the eastern slope of the southern High Cascades, the water source is Upper Klamath Lake. Sometimes called "the upside down river", the upper Klamath in Oregon is largely developed, but the lower Klamath is still wild, forested and ruggedly beautiful. Next to the Klamath, the only river that originates in a desert and flows into the coastal forests of the pacific west is the Pit River.
