The fish are still in the Trinity River but so are the smolts who are mixing with the Steelhead

Current River Conditions: There is still some interest in fishing on the 'ol Trinity this week, but the hatchery smolts are starting to trickle down from Lewiston, mixing in with adult steelhead. This scenario makes it difficult to get a fly in front of the adult steelhead thanks to the aggressive smolts who beat the bigger fish to the fly. Could be awesome for the kids! Anyway, it's possible to find a few steelhead here, but time has almost, practically, with certainty, run out.
The Fly Shop's?? Tips: A variety of techniques, using your 8-9wt rod for Salmon, or a more adaptable 5-6 wt fly rod for small steelhead and aggressive browns will tie you into fish. Suspending nymphs under an indicator, stripping buggers and leeches, swinging muddlers or PT nymphs will produce hook-ups! Even dry flies should be in the plan. Bring a parachute Adams! Hey! The King Salmon will eat nymphs suspended under indicators. What a blast!
Road Conditions:
Warm weather has made for safe road conditions. Not too much ice around these days, but that could change fast if temperatures drop, rain falls or a snow storm arrives. Call 1-800.427.7623 for up to date Northern California Road Conditions.
