A five-day charter aboard American Angler with owner-skipper Sam Patella, the 10th annual Uesugi-Kimura trip, with chartermasters George Uesugi and Russell Kimura, arrived August 20 at Point Loma Sportfishing.
"We arrived here at Cedros in the early morning," wrote Sam August 18, "and had a little 2:00 a.m. bait-making party, and then went fishing. We had a very productive morning. By the afternoon, the fish were a little harder to come by, but it still was a great day of fishing. The grade of fish we are able to catch at this Island is just awesome. The photo of the day is Terry Kimura with by far the biggest Yellow of the trip!
"Tomorrow is our last day and we are going to fish the coast for a few hours and then start running up the line and call it a trip, then finish up on the beach for a quick stop for some frying pan goodies."
Alex Owyoung of Sacramento, 12 years old and on his first long range trip ever with his dad Andrew Owyoung, won first place for the season's best albacore so far:??48.4 pounds.??????
Second place went to Terry Kimura of Cypress, for a 45.4-pound Cedros yellowtail. Tosh Kimura of Placentia won third place, for a 43.8-pound albacore. He and Terry are brothers.
