East Canyon is mostly covered with four inches of ice. There are a few spots of open water throughout the reservoir. There is safe ice around the park entrance, near the dam and on the southeast side. Anglers have been catching fish. Because ice thickness varies -- and can change quickly in warmer weather -- please use extreme caution and common sense. Take a friend when you fish and be sure to have ice-rescue gear. The first leg of the Wasatch Back Quad-fishalon will be held at East Canyon on January 31. The Quad-fishalon is four ice-fishing tournaments at four separate reservoirs. You can choose to enter one or all. Cabela's is sponsoring the event and will award an ultimate ice fishing package worth thousands of dollars.
