The multiple Storms that we have had this week has raised the lake level making the south end muddy. Have no fear shore anglers, ITS CATFISH TIME!. The water temperature is still hovering around 47 degrees. This week we received 750 lbs of Mount Lassen trout.
Trout fishing was solid at the end of last week. We had anglers from boats and the shore catching their limits. Trout fishing is still strong , but you need to head north and get into clear water. Trolling, drifting and bait fishing are all great ways to fish the lake. If you use bait- Mice Tails, Power Bait, and Night Crawlers all seem to work. If you like to troll or use lures- Kastmasters, Rooster Tails and Rapalas is the way to go.
Catfish anglers have been targeting trout and not catfish. With the muddy waters, the catfish are on the prowl. We have seem great numbers of catfish on stringers. The best baits to use are Chicken Livers, Sardines, and Anchovies. A great stink bait or cheese bait like G and S Dip Bait works very well. The biggest catfish this week weighed in at 17 lbs.
Striped bass are still deep but still can be caught. You need to try fishing for them in deep coves with Chicken Livers, Sardines, Anchovies, Mackerel and last but not least Night Crawlers.
Large mouth and small mouth bass have also gone to deeper water due to the cooler water temps. If you target Bass, it does take a lot of work.
This fishing report was reported by Tim Wood of Rocky Mountain Rec.- good job Tim!
