Last weekend yellowtail were biting on squid not far from the point at La Jolla. Among the fortunate anglers who got the word in time to get on the fish were several anglers in the local "plastic Navy," who used the candy bait to score on some heavier-than-normal yellows.

Vince Console of Hobie Kayaks, Morgan Promnitz of Blue Water Tackle in Solana Beach and Jerad Lane paddled to the spot and found some good business.

"We were fishing live squirts that we had jigged up off the bottom at about 4:30 in the morning," said Vince.?? "The bite was short and sweet! Yellows were biting on the bottom from six a.m. to about eight a.m. Then they just completely shut off.?? We were in about 90 to 100 feet of water off the Hotel."
