Sam Patella docked the American Angler at Pt. Loma Sportfishing November 21 after a ten-day trip with 23 anglers. He said he had 11 big tuna come under the boat at one point, but they still wouldn't bite.
"Maybe in December," said Sam, ready for Thanksgiving dinner.
Michael O'Donnell of Friday Harbor, WA won first place, for a 103-pound yellowfin tuna.
"I credit the crew for this fish," said Mike. "Jody and Nick got it unwrapped from the anchor line for me. The fish fought for 45 minutes."
O'Donnell got his prize-winner on a sardine and a 4/0 ringed Super Mutu hook. He said he fished with 60-pound Izorline, 100-poundSpectra backing on a TLD 30 reel and a 765 M rod. Tony Postolov of Venice won second place for a 100-pound tuna, and Randy Morgan of Trabuco Canyon won third place for a 92.5-pound tuna.
