Wow, another shot of water and the Truckee River rose to flood stage once again on Friday last week.
Things have settled down and the river is back down to around 750 cfs here in the Hirsch- and somewhat higher down below. The river has also gained back some clarity, though, us as anglers are more concerned about clarity than the fish. Fish can see just fine.
So it’s kinda business as usual, and business is good because we have some f’ing water. High flows are way better than low flows. That low flow shit is for the birds. Big flows= big fish.
Like I say 750 ain’t bad. Big for a lot of folks, but if you know you know. Flows should continue dropping but should stay, “up.” I’m guessing for the foreseeable future. Remember, winter time fish do not hang in fast water. Frog water is your friend. You may not hook many this time of year, but the fish you do hook are usually of good size. Often times we do better this time of year on the Truckee River than we do in the summer because trouts are in predictable spots and can be easy to find.
