Fall Chinook fishing on the Salmon river/bay opened Aug. 1, they are catching a few fish but it has been slow. The first couple weeks of September is typically when the Salmon River tidewater fishing really starts to heat up. Expect numbers of fall Chinook entering the estuaries to increase later in the month and into September. Best techniques include trolling herring/spinners, bobber fishing with bait, and casting spinners from the bank.
Sea run cutthroat are also available in the Salmon River. Although not as popular as the larger rivers in the area, the Salmon River still provides opportunity to catch these scrappy trout up to 20 inches in length.
Best techniques include trolling herring/spinners and bobber fishing with bait.
Trout fishing is open in streams and rivers. Fishing is restricted to artificial flies and lures, May 22- Aug 31.
