The Applegate River is open to trout and steelhead fishing through March 31. Only hatchery rainbow trout and hatchery Steelhead may be retained. All wild steelhead and cutthroat trout must be released.

Winter Steelhead in the Applegate are typically later arriving in the season. However, with 1000 cfs being released from Applegate Dam, this should certainly get fish moving through the system. As of Tuesday, there are no plans to reduce outlows until reservoir levels get closer to U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s flood control rule curve. Anglers are reminded there is no fishing from a floating device. The river temperature is 42 degrees.
