The Sacramento River’s west bank continues to provide excellent striped bass fishing for an- glers on the troll working waters in 12 to 15 feet depths dragging both shallow and deep diving Yo-Zuri’s with a white worm trailer. Most are reporting catching as many as 14 to 20 keepers on each outing with fish averaging from 5 to 8 pounds, up to an occasional fish weighing 10 pounds or better. This exceptional action is taking place from the Collinsville area upstream into the Rio Vista area. The secret is to locate a school using your electronics and then drop your lure and then let out about 75 to 80 feet of line. The same goes for the San Joaquin River east of the Antioch Bridge off the flats in front of Eddo’s Harbor up to the bridge off the north bank where the striped bass fishing has been rated very good. For those into bait fishing at anchor fresh thread fin shad is becoming available at some of the local bait shops. Live bait drifters using blue gills or golden shiners should be getting into the action as well.
The fishing will improve over all as we move into the cooler months of fall, especially in October for the annual Rio Vista Bass Derby scheduled for the 11th, 12th and 13th. Information:

The salmon fishing still remains slow on the Old Sacramento River from its mouth up into the Walnut Grove area. The best action is still taking place off the Freeport Bridge where Brad’s Cut plugs for boaters and Mepp’s Flying “C” spinners are producing fish up into the 20 plus pound bracket. Most of the salmon moving into the system are moving further upstream into the cooler sections of the river where the better action is occurring off the mouth of the Ameri- can River and the Feather River near the Thermalito After Bay.
