Action: Reduces the adult salmon daily limit to 1 fish in the lower Kalama River.

Effective date: March 1, 2020 until further notice.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: From the mouth upstream to 1,000 feet below the fishway at the upper salmon hatchery (i.e. Kalama Falls Hatchery).

Reason for action: An estimated 1,000 adult spring Chinook are forecast to return to the Kalama River in 2020.  Managers need to reduce the adult salmon daily limit to ensure hatchery broodstock goals are achieved. Reducing the adult daily limit will provide continued opportunity for anglers to harvest spring Chinook and help ensure future hatchery returns. 

Additional information: The salmon daily limit remains 6 fish; up to 1 adult may be retained. Only hatchery Chinook and hatchery coho may be retained. Anglers may also fish for steelhead and retain up to 3 hatchery fish per day.
