The Kerby guage was reading 448 cfs and rising, but still extremely low for this time of year. Steelhead should be in the system but water conditions are very low and clear.

The Illinois River is now closed to all fishing through May 22. There is not a hatchery on the Illinois, so fishing is primarily catch-and-release for wild fish. Wild rainbow trout and cutthroat trout may not be retained at any point during the year. Trout fishing reopens on May 23.
