EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is running at about 163 cfs right now. The fishing has been a little tough for some anglers down there this past week but there has also been some anglers who have done very well. Over the past week the weather has not been too helpful with some colder temperatures and lots of wind but it seems to be leveling off and getting warmer now. The caddis should start popping again with the warmer weather which should trigger some good dry fly action again. Over the past couple weeks the good reports we’ve received have been mainly nymphing but we have had some really good dry fly reports as well as a few good streamer reports. The best dry fly action has been in the late evenings though it won’t necessarily happen every evening, some evenings the fish are really looking up but other evenings it’s still. The same goes for the streamer fishing, most of the streamer reports have been slow but here and there we get some good reports. Most of all if you stick with nymphing you should do well.

Patterns to try: WD-40, rainbow warrior, top secret midge, radiation baetis, darth baetis, cotton candy, psycho prince, soft hackle, squirmy wormy, san juan worm, zebra midge, red-headed stepchild, silver streak, flashback emerger, zuddler, dead drift crayfish, moal leech, seal bugger, sculpzilla, chubby Chernobyl, stimulator, BWO, blue dun, parachute adams, elk hair caddis, E/C caddis.

SCEIRINE RANCH

The ranch hasn’t had anyone on it for about a week, prior to that it was fishing very well. Lots of nice fish in the 14 to 20 inch range being caught out there. Like the California side it has been mostly nymphing with caddis nymphs with a few good streamer reports mixed in. Soft hackles and small stonefly nymphs have also been doing well on the ranch.

HUNEWILL POND

The pond fished very well yesterday and we have clients out again today so we should get more reports this afternoon. All of the fish caught yesterday were on small leech patterns and soft hackles. As the weather warms up the dry/dropper action should get better too. Give us a call if you want to book some time on the pond.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

Well, fishing season opened up this past Saturday and the fishing did not disappoint. The Reservoir fished very well trolling, bait fishing out of boats and there were some nice fish caught from the shore as well. Lots of nice browns in the 2 to 4 pound range were caught and rainbows in the 2 to 5+ pound range were caught as well. Trolling did well with Thomas bouyants, Rapalas, nightcrawlers and streamer flies. Bait anglers did well with mice tails, power bait and inflated crawlers.

KIRMAN LAKE

We haven’t had any reports back from Kirman yet, when we hear something we’ll pass it along.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins kicked off the season well with lots of nice 2 to 5 pound fish being caught up there both from boats and from shore. We had reports from anglers fishing from the shore with inflated crawlers, powerbait and mice tails with limits of nice rainbows and a few browns here and there. The boat anglers did well with Rapalas, Thomas Bouyants and crawlers.

WEST WALKER RIVER

We didn’t get much for fishing reports from the West this weekend but it sounds like the run-off is a little high and the water up there is pretty high and off-color. There’s not too much snow left on the mountain so when that mostly goes away the river will come down and get fishable again, when that happens it should be very good.

VIRGINIA LAKES

We only got a couple reports back from the Virginias but they were all very good! It sounds like there weren’t too many anglers up there this weekend but the ones who did go up there did very well. Casting Thomas Bouyants and Kastmasters was very good as well as jigging with mini jigs. We didn’t hear anything about bait or flies but would expect powerbait and crawlers to be good as well as wooly buggers, soft hackles and other small leech patterns to do well for the fly anglers.

If you would like to receive this report via email, drop me a line at reidfly63@yahoo.com and I'll get you on the list!

RANDOM INFORMATION:

It seemed like a long time coming but fishing season is finally open. Businesses in Bridgeport and the surrounding area are slowly but surely opening up, for lodging and camping it’s best to call the place you want to stay to find out about any restrictions as things seem to be changing daily. It’s finally time to get out and get some fish and fresh air!
