WELCOME BACK EVERYONE, YES WERE OPEN. Fishing at Lake Del Valle has been good the past few days for Catfish, Stripers and Crappie. Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass have been doing good they are being caught near all the trees in the water and all the rock cliffs. Crappie and Panfish can also be caught near trees and rocks you would want to use Red Worms or Night Crawlers.

Weather: The weather has been warm hasn’t been to sunny but has been warm. We are expecting it to get colder as the week goes on.

Clarity of water: Murky about 4-foot visibility near the Marina, once you get past the Lower Narrows it clears up and it is about a 15-foot visibility.

Temperature of lake: 72 Degrees F.

Hot spots: Across from Marina, Lowers Narrows, Swallow Bay, and the Dam.

Favorite lures for Bass, Stripers: Swimbaits, Flicker Shad, Bass Jigs, and Kastmasters.

Bait: Trout-Large Night Crawlers.

Striped Bass- Anchovies , Swimbaits.

Catfish- Sardines, Anchovies.

Trout Plants: There have been no fish plants since we have been open!!!

Here is a report from our very own Dr. Al Hurwitz who is one of our regulars:

“Al Hurwitz of Saratoga and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale finally got to get back on Lake Del Valle on 10/8/2020, after months of delay due to COVID19 and recent fires. We were trolling and targeting Smallmouth Bass. We hooked up with 18 fish, 16 Smallies and 2 Striped Bass. The Smallmouths were of variable size. Four of them were in the 1.5-1.65 lb. range, and one (pictured here with Al) weighed 2.4 lbs. They are terrific fighters with great jumps and pulling hard at the side of the boat. Most were caught along the Eastern and Western shores in the areas near Swallow and Heron Bays. All the fish we caught were catch and release. We used Panther Martin spinners and were finding fish striking 10-15 feet below the surface in 20-40-foot water columns. We applied oil and spray scents to the spinners. With the lake level dropping, these fish have moved offshore, foraging for food before the winter months. The water was very clear, and the surface water temperature was 71 degrees. An outstanding day to return to this outstanding fishery. As always, the staff were very helpful, and the boat and facilities top notch! Hope to see you very soon for another round of great fishing. It was wonderful to get on the lake again after months of delay due to COVID19 and the recent fires."
