Solid spring fishing.

Been cold, but we finally had a warm weekend. Winds, and an inside slider today over the Great Basin. Warming back up again later in the week.

Been a cold March, cold winter for that matter. I guess it’s spring though.

Flows are great on the Truckee River, not high, not low. Been about 3 years since mellow spring flows. Good wading access for everyone. Lots and lots of spawning rainbows this year. They’ll have a good spawn with these flows. Saw a pair on a redd here in Hirschdale, they looked like LCT’s. Keep your eye out for redds. Carved out little troughs in the river, in water usually about 1-3 feet deep. Tail outs especially. Don’t wade in or near them.

Finally saw my first skwala yesterday. Should have some good skwala days ahead with these flows. Blue wings of course too. This is that time of year for them. Your best fishing right now is 12-5, when that water gets some warmth.
