Hello fellow anglers. The sun is hot and the days are longer, a perfect recipe for spring fishing. I spoke with the committee for the Lampe Park kids fishing event last week. Due to safety concerns for both the families and volunteers due to covid 19, the event will not be held this year. The committee also wanted everyone to know, they are gearing up for 2022,  which I feel will be the best event you will ever experience. For anyone that would like to get more information on volunteering or becoming a sponsor for this great event, you can email them at KFDVolunteers@aol.com.  I have been privileged to be a part of this event for many years.I have to tell you how powerful it is to make a change in a child's life by introducing them to fishing. This is not just a kids day, it is a family day. I have seen kids that have been a part of the event, to then become a volunteer. Now, taking their kids to the event. It is all about bringing families together and enjoying a wonderful sport and making memories.

SILVER LAKE:The lake is thawed and the water level is low  but you can still launch most vessels. Use cation if this is your first time out on the lake. You must stay in the channel when going out and keep an eye on your depth finder to avoid large rocks. Fishing has been good for shore anglers by the launch area. The CDFW has planted the lake with rainbow trout. Boaters have been using Rapalas in a black and silver pattern. Early morning bite if you are going out for mackinaws.

CAPLES LAKE: The Caples Lake Resort has started opening up this last week. They are renting boats and the boat lunch is also open. Gary McDonald from Gardnerville NV caught a nice 7.5 mackinaw trolling last week. The CDFW planted brown trout last week and has a future plant of rainbow trout. The EID day use facility is scheduled to open this weekend. The resort should be fully open before Memorial weekend. For more  information, stop by the Caples Lake Resort.

WOODS LAKE: As of last weekend. the road was not open. But should be open before Memorial weekend. Woods Creek entrance is open for those that prefer to hike down and fish the inlet.

BLUE LAKES: As of this week the road was open to the 3rd gate. That gives you access to some rural camping along the roadway.

REDLAKE: The lake is fully thawed and spring fishing should start to pick up. Salmon eggs or throwing a Kastmaster is most productive. I will keep an ear out for the Blue green algae warnings as the spring season progresses. Always use caution around the water, especially with your pets.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: The campground is still closed. Fishing has picked up and I spoke with a representative of Alpine County. I was told that the lake has passed the Blue green algae inspection. The CDFW has planted the lake with rainbow trout and has another scheduled plant later this month. Kastmasters Thomas Bouyants are productive on this lake. Inflated nightcrawlers or Powerbait are also very productive. The lake has rainbow and cutthroat trout ranging from 12 inches to 12 lbs. Don't be surprised if you catch a largemouth bass here and there. For more information stop by the Creekside Lodge.

CARSON RIVER EAST FORK CALIFORNIA SIDE: The river is running good with a little green tint to it. I ventured up last week with Renee and I caught a fish on my second cast. CDFW has planted the river this week and has a scheduled plant later in the month. I spoke with Phil at the Carson River Resort. Phil shared some pictures with me. Claude Spears from San Jose CA caught a 5lb rainbow on salmon eggs. 13 year old Brandon Hunter from Modesto CA caught a nice rainbow also using salmon eggs. Glenn Miller from South Lake Tahoe CA caught a 5lb rainbow while fly fishing with a grub. For more information or to get your picture taken with your catch, stop by the Carson River Resort.

WEST FORK CARSON RIVER WEST FORK: The river is running low for this time of year. But it is very fishable. The CDFW planted the river this week. Most angler have been fishing out in the meadow area of Hope Valley. Salmon eggs have been most productive.

SILVER CREEK: The CDFW planted the river and has been doing good to fair for catchable rainbow trout.  The river does tend to muddy up a little on warmer days from the runoff. That is when you fish right on the bottom with powerbait or salmon eggs.

WOLF CREEK: The road is open, I have not fished it yet this year and have not had any reports come in.

EBBETTS PASS: still closed but due to open by or before memorial weekend.

MONITOR PASS: Now open.

MARKLEEVILLE CREEK: The flows are low and perfect for fishing. The CDFW planted the river last week with catchable rainbow trout.

EAST CARSON RIVER DOUGLAS COUNTY: I spoke with Daniel Goff from Minden Nv. Daniel fished last  week and caught and released a few nice trout above the bridge.

NDOW FISH PLANTS: East Walker river, DavisCreek, Spooner Lake, Truckee River.
Good luck on your next fishing adventure. I hope to see you on the waters. If you have a photo of your catch, send it to sports@recourdcourier.com.  Good fishin' and tight lines.
