Steelhead fishing has been really good in December and early January. As flows drop from recent storms, anglers will want to be on the river as soon as conditions allow. Plunkers can usually start fishing around 8000 cfs and dropping. Boats will want to wait until flows get around 4000cfs.
ODFW runs an angler-caught broodstock program for winter steelhead on the Chetco. Anglers interested in participating can call the ODFW Gold Beach office at 541-247-7605 for more information.
