The Crooked has been fishing well during this warmer weather. The river is low and a bit off color but the fish have been biting. Winter appears to be making a return come February, it’s a good idea to head out to the Crooked before the banks freeze up and the fish get sluggish. There hasn’t been much surface activity but once in a while you may see a light blue wing olive hatch. Midges, scuds, baetis nymphs, and other small mayfly nymphs are good subsurface flies to use. If they’re not biting on the small stuff try out a searching pattern around size 12 - 14 and cover water to find a hungry fish. Small leeches and streamers are also a good tactic when the bite is slow.
