At Alamo Lake (report courtesy of Alamo Lake State Park Ranger Drew Collett), the topwater bass fishing is on fire and many anglers have been catching (and releasing) 10-25 bass per day. Whopper floppers and frogs seem to be the go-to lures, but anglers are reporting success with a variety of topwater presentations. With water stained from runoff, most anglers are reporting “white/green frogs” as the most productive choice. The best fishing has been at the east end of the lake at sunup, however bass can be caught throughout the day. Lipless cranks like Rat-L-Traps have accounted for a fair share of Alamo bass recently as well. The fishing for catfish has finally picked up a bit in the early morning and at sundown. Crappie fishing is getting better under lights at night.
