The Trask has the North Coast’s largest release of hatchery spring Chinook (not counting the Columbia) and those fish should start returning this month and on through June. It can be tough fishing, but catching a chrome bright springer on a spring day is an experience worth the effort and nothing beats spring Chinook on the grill.
Fishing has picked up near the hatchery recently but is still a little slow and sporadic for most anglers. There are definitely fish in the river. There are no hatchery summer steelhead releases on the Trask, but we do see the occasional stray.
