The fishing at Pyramid Lake is beginning to settle in to a familiar rhythm. The bite will be steady one day and a grind the next. We’ve been finding most of our fish on olive or black balanced leeches between 8 – 12 feet deep. These are fish that come up from deep water to cruise the shallower shelves and forage before they return down to deeper water. As the water temperature continues to drop, the bite will begin to open across the lake. The southern beaches are still fishing well, however the bite along all the beaches to the north should also begin to pick up in the weeks to come. For those newer to fishing Pyramid, consider using 0x or 1x if fishing balanced leeches and make sure to cork your hookset. If using a midge, consider slightly downsizing your tippet. These fish, however, are generally not leader shy this time of the year. If fly tying is something that interests you, this is a great place to test out your creations. The fish at Pyramid see a lot of flies throughout the course of the year, and throwing something slightly different can pay off with strong results. The flies that we tie for Pyramid are generally beginner friendly, and easy to tie. Keep an eye out for some videos to drop in the months to come, showing you some easy patterns you can try for Pyramid Lake.
