Trout fishing in the Lower Kern remains steady throughout the canyon

Holdover and planters can be caught with salmon eggs, crickets, and trout jigs. Riverside Park to Powerhouse #3 remains one of the best sections in the Upper Kern. Fly anglers have done well with various nymphs and streamers. Trout fishing in the Lower Kern remains steady throughout the canyon. The last plant was a few weeks ago in all three sections of the canyon. Trout can be caught with salmon eggs, pinched crawlers and minijigs. The Lower Kern smallmouth bass bite is fair with small crankbaits, spinners and Senkos. Catfish can be taken with cut baits and nightcrawlers. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River is flowing at 957 CFS and the Lower Kern River is flowing at 589 CFS.
