The LT saw a good bump in flows this week, coming up to +/- 140 CFS as of Thursday. These flows should really cause the fishing to pick up out here as the increase in water makes for more areas for the fish to hold in and entices the fish from Boca to make their way upstream. This will also encourage the rainbows to spawn and caution should be taken when wading out here to avoid shallow gravel bars and riffles containing redds. The spawn on the Little Truckee is typically much more pronounced due to the size of the river and seeing multiple dozens of fish spawning on any given day is not unheard of. As previously mentioned, please give these fish their space and if you have any questions about fishing during this time of year, please don’t hesitate to ask, we are happy to help.

The baetis fishing out here remains very consistent, with a good hatch mid-day and using these nymphs subsurface when adults aren’t present. Unlike the main river, the March browns and caddis out here have been few and far between, so for this week we recommend sticking with midges, baetis, worms and eggs… Oh, and use light tippet!
