Crooked River is still fishing really well, and with our mild week it seemed to make it even better. Midges around 2 PM and later are the main hatch and fish are eating the dry fly when the hatch is on. Look for softer water to have the best midge hatches.
December and January usually don’t get a very good BWO hatch but that is not to say it never trickles off from time to time, so look for some small mayflies around 1 or 2. BWO Nymphs are never out of style here!
The best fishing has been on the nymphs with Zebra Midges and tiny Perdigons catching the most fish. Also a 2 Bit Hooker and Skinny Nelson would be 2 others to make sure you have in the box if you go this week. You know I like a small Oros or NZ Wool Indicator for the Crooked to maintain depth control in low winter flows and try to have less influence from weeds. Some of the runs are also really good for Euro or Drop Shot fishing.
