There are some very nice trout in Malheur Reservoir right now. Anglers were consistently catching trout this fall using a variety of methods. Recent sampling showed there are plenty of trout in the 17 to 20-inch range weighing around two pounds with good numbers of smaller trout as well.
No recent reports on ice thickness, portions of the reservoir were still ice free a week ago but recent cold weather should improve ice conditions. If you venture on to the ice use extreme caution. Ice thickness and strength will be variable due to thawing and re-freezing that has recently occurred.
