Ice thickness remains incredibly variable throughout the reservoir. Recent overnight lows dipping into the negatives have improved ice growth in some areas, while other areas still have a ways to go due to above average daytime temps. The shoreline near the boat ramp within Wild Horse State Recreation Area is just beginning to ice over and remains unsafe for access at this time. Anglers are reporting ice measuring up to 9″ in some of the coves of the Hendricks arm and Penrod arm. It is imperative to excercise extreme caution at this time. Always sample the ice for yourself and come equipped with ice safety gear such as ice picks, rope, extra clothing, etc.
