Fishing Seasons Closed until April

Why are there no reports or fishing trips scheduled right now on the boats right now???   Easy answer:  the rockfishing season ended on December 31 and remains closed January, February and March.  The deep sea rockfishing season will reopen on Tuesday, April 1 fishing deeper than 300 feet off the coastline.  This year's season will be the same as last year alternating betetween fishing deep and fishing shallow:  April, October and December are deep (fishing deeper than 300 feet), May through September and November are shallow (fishing depths less than 120 feet).  We're still hoping that there may be an opportunity for salmon fishing this year after being closed the last two years.  Why was it closed?  Primarily due to lack of spawners returning upriver to spawn.  There is currently a proposal to allow salmon fish 11 days between June and August; the final decision "yes" or "no" wil be announced by April 15.  The Dungeness crab season for recreational anglers is open, pending any changes, through the end of June, but most boats pack in their crab gear after the new year as demand slows down to a crawl.  As soon as we receive an update about salmon, I'll post it here.
